Frequently asked questions

The questions couples ask before they trust us with their data. For the engineering detail, see How Closer Couples protects your data.

Privacy & encryption

Can Closer Couples see my private content?

No. Private content is encrypted on your phone with a couple key Closer Couples does not hold. Our servers store the encrypted form. The full explanation is on our security page.

What if Closer Couples gets hacked?

An attacker who reads our database sees service metadata and encrypted blobs. They cannot read your answers, messages, memories, or private game content without the couple key.

Does Closer Couples show ads or sell my data?

No. There are no ads, no data sales, and no third-party trackers on this public site. The product is funded by optional subscriptions.

Does the app work offline?

Local history and drafting can work from the device cache. Sending, receiving, syncing, billing, and partner activity require a network connection.

Account & pairing

How does pairing work?

One partner creates an invite from inside the app, the other accepts it, and both devices establish the shared couple key used for private content. The security page explains where that key lives. Either partner can unpair later.

What does my partner see about me?

A minimal profile card: name, photo, and gender. The rest of your account record is not visible to them, and server rules enforce that boundary.

What if we break up?

Either partner can unpair in the app. Already viewed information cannot be recalled from another person, but future couple access stops.

Therapist sharing

How does therapist sharing work?

Therapist sharing requires approval from the therapist, Client A, and Client B. The therapist never gets the couple key, and only selected nonsexual context within the approved scope can transfer. See For Therapists for the full sharing walkthrough and HIPAA and clinical data for the therapist-side boundary.

Can the therapist see my whole history?

No. The therapist can only receive the specific scope both clients approved. Messages, media, sexual questions, and blocked packs are not part of therapist export.

Can I share without my partner knowing?

No. Both clients must approve the same therapist scope before anything transfers.

Billing

How much is it?

Closer Couples is free to try. Premium is $5.99/month or $39.99/year, and one subscription covers both partners in the couple. See the pricing page for details.

How do I cancel?

Through the store you bought it from: Google Play or the App Store. Closer Couples does not hold your card details and cannot cancel store subscriptions on your behalf.

Do you offer refunds?

Refunds are governed by the store you bought from. Reach out to that store first.

When something goes wrong

I lost my phone. Can I get my history back?

Usually yes. Use your recovery phrase on a new device, or ask your partner to help restore the couple key from their device with an out-of-band code check. If both partners lose every device and the phrase, the content cannot be recovered.

What if I forgot my recovery phrase?

Your partner has the same phrase. Ask them. If neither of you has it, you can keep using working devices, but you have lost the safety net for future restores.

I think I found a security issue.
